SMY Remixes #2
12″, Burial Mix, 2006
Guess I’m a little late on this one, part three in the series was released just last week. I need to go to Amoeba more often. Just like volume 1 this is a 12″ containing three remixes of material from Rhythm & Sound’s “See mi Yah” release, heading more towards electronica or techno than the usual Burial Mix style. Perhaps it’s not the most crucial Rhythm & Sound release ever, but then again what else are you gonna spend your money on?
DJ legend Francois K delivers the best track here with his version of “Lightning Storm”, suprisingly reworked into a jungle track. It may not be Soundmurderer but skanks along nicely, and Rod of Iron’s vocal works really well in that format. Can’t say I’ve heard of the other two remixers before, but I’m sure they’re nice people. Soundstream’s “Free For All” is pretty straight forward deep house. Sweet Substance go for the electronic dub but stay pretty close to the original Rhythm & Sound style.
